Mirena and period

ACK so I've had my IUD since Feb and I haven't had a period since I stopped spotting about 6 weeks after insertion.

Of course I have a huge weekend planned and a wedding to go to this weekend. Our first Adult weekend away since DS was born.

Was your first period with Mirena like normal or was it lighter or shorter right away? I'm so hoping to not have a period this weekend, by Sat.

I have to say this is the first time I've had a down side to the IUD. With the pill I could skip my period but now I'm stuck with it if it comes.

not to scare you because every woman's different and it might be easier for you but for me the first few months after I had my mirena put in I had longer, heavier periods that lasted 16+ days and came every two weeks. My IUD wasn't put in on day one of my cycle because my dr and I couldn't get our schedules straight. Most drs try and put them in on day one....good luck.....

My personal experience w/the Mirena sounds similar to yours. I had some off & on spotting for the first couple months and I haven't seen that glorious visitor since!! That was 4 years ago - I absolutely love it.
I think that is the most common result. The heavy bleeding thing is unusual. I would say you are probably home free for the weekend. From what I have read and experienced, if you get anything, it will be minimal!

For the first few months on the IUD, I had extended periods up to two weeks long. Most of that was spotting after the first few days. That said, I was still recovering from the side effects of the Depo shot, and in between stopping the shot, and having the IUD inserted, I had very irregular cycles, that were very heavy. I believe that the lighter, but long periods I had in the first few months of the IUD were due to that, and no so much to me adjusting to the IUD.

Hmm interesting, everyone has had really different experiences.

I had it put in at my 6 week post partum check up. Since the initial spotting stopped I haven't had any bleeding at all.

My periods weren't ever heavy or painful before. Since I went to the bathroom last night and noticed something I haven't had anymore so I'm hopeful that it will just be a little light spotting.

Thanks for all the info. Once again everyone here is wonderful.
