Insurance won't cover Nuvaring

I have been using Nuvaring for 3 years and love it. When taking pills I would forget at least ten times a month and then tried a birth control shot which I did not like. I finally have health insurance through a good company (bcbs) or so I though! My problem is they do not cover Nuvaring! I do not know what to do now, do I change birth controls or pay the full dollar amount (which is most likely going to be costly)? I really don't want to stop the Nuvaring but may not be able to afford paying out of pocket. Does anyone have any suggestions whether it is a diff. BC or how much out of pocket may cost me? Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks for the reply, I have an individual plan so I do not get insurance through work. I called the insurance and they told me over the phone they do not cover the medication. I guess my only option is to call around pharmacies if I want to continue with the nuvaring. Maybe I should look into another birth control, I checked yaz and my insurance doesn't cover that either!

Maybe you can go to Planned Parenthood? I think they discount it there.

Before I had insurance I used planned parenthood which was $30 a month. I just started using a doctor on my insurance plan and she wrote me the script. I wonder if I can fill my script at planned parenthood or only if I have the exam done through them? I guess I will start making phone calls in the morning. I have choosen to stick with nuvaring even if I have to pay it out of my pocket it is definatly worth it for me.

Have you been to Nuvaring's website? It's nuvaring.com and their phone # is 877-NuvaRing

There's a free trial offer in the lower right hand corner of their webpage.

Some, if not all, of the pharmaceutical companies offer special programs to individuals who do not have prescription coverage; it's worth a toll-free phone call to find out if they have a program like that.
