For those with Mirena and no children...

I have had my Mirena in for 1 and a half weeks now. I have never had children, so I expected some pain... but this is almost unbearable. I've been taking 12 ibuprofen a day since they won't let me take prescription pain pills anymore, and 4 ibuprofen at a time doesn't even buy me 6 hours without moderate/severe cramping.
I went to my gyn on Friday and everything checked out, but he said if I'm still in this much pain on Tuesday, he has no other choice but to remove it.
I really don't want this... this was my only option for decent birth control (I cannot take anything with estrogen due to Factor V and prothrombin mutation). I do not want to give up on this yet... if anyone has any suggestions to make this easier, pretty please let me know!
Thanks in advance!

Jill
I don't have any suggestions. I had minor cramps for a couple of days when I got my Mirena. I've never heard of anyone having unbearable constant pain like you're describing. You definitely can't keep taking all these pills, and it sounds like your doctor is right about saying that removal is the only choice.
Has the pain gotten any better at all? If it hasn't by now, then it doesn't seem like you have time to wait and see much longer.
It's actually better now. Not 100% back to normal, but it's getting more bearable. I think it's just going to take a while... oh well!
Thanks!
Holly
I never experienced that much pain, so i don't know what to say. You may need to switch up the pain medicines to like Tylenol or Midol Complete. Sometimes it helps. I would also make sure to drink 8-10 glasses of water spread out over the day... the pain medicines can really harm your liver. I had some horrible cramping the first couple of weeks, but it would come and go, so it wasn't unbearable, and my doctor said it was fine, just take some advil to prevent/lessen the pain.
I had really horrible cramping every month with the period that was way worse than any i have had from the IUD, so any pain from the IUD wasn't too shocking or unbearable since i usually had longer lasting cramps. I have had mine for almost 2 months now, and I don't get the cramping anymore. I don't know how awful the pain you have is, but it may get better if you can wait it out awhile, but it isn't healthy to take the amount of ibufrofin you are taking to prevent the pain. Taking 4 over the counter ibrufrofin is the same as taking 1 prescription ibufrofin. 4-6 hours is about the time medicine wears off. You might want to see if you can just get the ibufrofin prescription since you are taking the same amount anyway. Also, you may just want to cut down on the medicine and try to live through the pain. It sucks, but hopefully everything will be better with a little time.
I haven't had children either - but did not experience the pain you are describing. I definately was a lot more crampy in the few months following insertion. But I would just take advil regularly and it eventually stopped. Now I just cramp up when I need to take a bowel movement or am about to start my period.
