DEPO

How long after you are off the Depo does your period start??? My last day on the Depo, the last day to get the shot, was on May 16th. I went to the doctor on May 18th to get BC, so he gave me prescription for Yaz. I want to wait until after I get my period though to start taking them. I feel like he was trying to scare me into getting the Depo again; he told me that if I would happen to be pregnant, the depo wouldn't hurt anything unlike the BC pill. They did take a PG test and it was negative. Do ya'll think I should take another test??

Thanks,
Maya

Some women don't start their period for months after the Depo shot. If you are at least 2 weeks past when you could have possibly conceived a HPT should be accurate.

Thanks for the response :)

I'll probably wait a couple of more weeks, and if I don't get it, take another test.

I'm not sure what kind of advice your doctor is giving you; but, it's incorrect. I was on depo myself and it was a wonderful contraceptive for the time. You can only stay on it for so long though because you can develop bone loss. Depending on how long you were on it, you may want to have a bone density test to see if you experienced any bone loss and if you need to increase you calcium intake. As far as beginning the new birth control, you can't begin it until after your first regular period. It can take anywhere from 3-6 months from your last depo injection for you to have your period because the depo injection lasts for three months and then your body has to realize that it's not getting it anymore. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the response

At first he told me that I had to wait for my period to start Yaz, then he said, well I guess you can just start it now. I am really thinking about changing doctors! It just seems like he says what he want to say, not what is medically correct. Like when I first got the shot, he told me that my cycles would be regular again about 3 months after I get off of the shot, like the BC. But everything I read says it could take up to over a year?!?!? I only had the shot 2 times. I guess I will just enjoy the time with no period, LOL until it comes back ;)

Thank you for your response.

I think I will just wait it out for a couple of more weeks. I guess there is a chance that I could be pregnant, Hubby and I use the "pull out" method. That worked very well for us before. The two times that we did get careless, that's when we conceived our two angels. I know that doesn't mean this time it didn't work, but I feel pretty confident that I am not pregnant.

WoHoooo, 3-6 months without a period, that will be great!!!

P.S. My hair started falling out (in large quantities, I thought) a couple of months after my first shot, do you think this is a side effect from the shot????

Hair loss can be a side effect and irregular bleeding can also be a common side effect when coming off Depo so you might expect that.
