Hi,
I have been taking ortho cyclin for 7 years and before that a generic brand I can't remember. In college I would purposely skip my period by skipping the placebos for 4 packs so I only got my fake period every 3 months. My body never responded negatively (ie no spotting, cramps, etc) but after I graduated (3 yrs ago) I went back to the normal cycle and have been regular ever since.
However, in the last few months things got wacky. I went through two placebo weeks without getting my period. I didn't think much of it because A) I didn't miss a pill or change my routine B) my partner and I rarely had actual sex (ouch i know!) C) when we do, he pulls out - when he doesn't I took EC once just to be sure and D) I had been under a lot of stress due to quitting my job and had gotten sick in the last few weeks. I figured my body was just out of whack.
Then two weeks into my third pack I had major spotting. I went to Planned Parenthood today and they gave me a pelvic exam and (without any blood test) claimed I had suffered a miscarriage. I know from recent research that taking b/c while pregnant does not influence spontaneous abortion.
Now I'm torn: should I give my body a break from hormonal contraception? Is b/c for 7 continuous years safe? If I had been taking the pill on a normal routine, was the efficacy somehow comprised by other factors like taking NyQuil or Sudafed or stress? Because I miscarried do I need to wait until my natural period returns before beginning a new pack? I don't want to get pregnant but I feel like my body is in disrepair and I wonder if I would have more control if I just went au natural for a few months to recover.
Thanks and I apologize if these questions have been answered in previous threads. I tried to search but ended up just posting :)

Hi leonness, welcome!

I'd be curious to know how anyone could tell that you had a miscarriage without doing an ultrasound, a
