Depo shot long period

Hey, I'm super worried. Around the end of April I decided to take the "birth control shot." Previously all I had used with my boyfriend was a male condom. In other words this is my first experience with a "serious" form of birth control. Well, I was told I may or may not have my period. I"ve been on my period for two weeks now. This is the longest I've ever been on my period. I'm worried about it, but it also sort of disrupting my sex life...which is the reason I started on birth control. My friend, let's call her "Sarah", went with me to Planned Parenthood to get the shot. I learned about it from her. Sarah had gotten it before, so she went with me so that I wouldn't be so nervous. Afterwards Sarah told me that the nurse that she always sees, told her that if you start your period while on the shot to take four Advils, every four hours, four times a day, for two to three days, or it will last for a long time. Well, I let my period go on for a week, because I thought maybe it might be normal. When I realized it had now signs of stopping, I tried the advil thing for three days. It got alot lighter, but didn't stop. It won't stop. I'm scared of being on advil for so long, so I don't really want to do it again. Is there any way to stop my period? Is this Advil thing advisable? I would really appreciate the information.
