Ok to start nuvarng after day 5?

I was going to start the nuvaring this cycle but my period came on Monday I didn't get time to fill my perscription until today. Today would be day 6. Is it bad to start the nuvaring later than day 5? I know I'll need to use a back-up method for the first month but my doctor advised me to do that anyway to be safe. Are there any other problems? Would it be better to wait another cycle?

i used to use the nuva ring and i started it like a week after i had my period it was the only time i could get in to my dr. we used a back up for a month so that i could get comfortable with it. It dident seem to give me any problems starting it after day 5 of my cycle. since your going to use a back up for a full cycle id say youd probably be ok

Thanks for your response. How long have you been taking it? Do you like it?

im not on any BC right now being that im pregnant but i was on Nuva ring for about a year right before we started Trying to get pregnant. I have dificulties taking hormonal bc i seem to get alot of bad sideffects but nuva ring had the least ammount for me and i loved how easy it was that i dident have to worry about it for 3 weeks. expecially when we did alot of camping and things like that it was nice not to have to remember to take my bc along. I hope that it works out well for you.let me know if you have any questions and ill try to answer them.

I have a lot of trouble with hormonal BC too but I'm hoping I'll tolerate the ring better. I thought about the camping thing as well. My partner and I do a lot of hiking and camping. Thanks for sharing your experience.

hey, my dr had my start the sunday after my period started. if it started sunday, you put it in, but if start it monday, you wait until the next sunday to put it in. you should be fine. i don't remember how mine started out though.

i love the ring. i started in february, i think. don't remember exactly. i had been on orthotricylin lo to start off and it was horrible. it made me go psycho. but the ring works really well. it has made my period lighter and shorter than EVER. it seriously is only one full day, then just a tiny bit for 2-3 days after that...i used to have it for 5-7 days and it woudl come whenever. no it comes wednesday morning of the week i have it. give it a few months to get your body used to it, then you'll know when yours will be coming. it's so nice.

also, if you go to the nuvaring webpage, they have free electronic thingys that can keep track of when to take it out/put it in. i got mine in the mail today. not sure how helpful it'll be in the long run, but it's excites me.

just make sure you keep the ring in between the temps that it says to. with summer being here, it's making me nervous!

Thanks for sharing your expeirence. I too had a horrible experience on Orthotricyclin. I'm feeling optimistic about the ring though. People seem to have good experiences with it for the most part.

yeah. it's amazing. at least for me. sometimes it doesn't get in the way during sex, but it's not hard to takeit out and put it back in right after. much better than trying to remember a pill every day and it was almost instantly that my mental/emotional status got fairly normal. i couldn't believe how much i got messed up on OTL.
