Background info first:
I work offsite as a financial counselor for several OB/GYN Drs at different clinics. Well, one of our onsite financial counselors is on maternity leave and I am part of a rotation to cover her desk at a clinic. So today I worked with the OB drs and their patients. So...

In passing I asked one the senior OB/GYN docs, whats his opinion of Nuvaring?? Its important to me that I am on the lowest product possible and it seems to be the lowest. He said "No its not. I dont consider Nuvaring to be low-dose due to the continous exposure." He went on to say how in time data will come out, just like the patch, that the total levels are much higher than they thought. He doesnt feel it will be as high as the patch. But he thinks it is in the middle range...like most of the OCP with 30mcg of estrogen. He named several ORtho products that he would compare it to.

I was shocked by this!!! I was under the impression that this was the lowest thing out right now. But that might also explain why I am steadily adding lbs despite diet and exercise.
Has anyone else heard this??

I called Organon today. The medical staff rep said that they only gave 21 day data because its the same each month. Because its such a low dose, during your week off all hormones are eliminated from your body. Therefore you are starting at 0 with each new Nuvaring.

Does that seem right to you?? There arent any residuals left over??

One more question for you...

Is there any info out there regarding the total progestin exposure?? For me that figure is just as important.

Thanks

Something to remember that my doctor told me when I went on the Nuvaring is that because the ring is inserted right at the source, most of what your are taking in is in that concerntrated area. This is opposed to taking something like the pill where you take it orally and it goes through your system, which has your body intake what is in the pill, having more of the hormones absorb into your system instead of staying at the spot where we women need it.
