I didnt like the mirena because I still didnt have much of a sex drive and my period stopped which made me paranoid. I went to using NFP and like it so far. Do some research before you decide for sure to get the iud so you know if it is right for you.

I have an IUD (the Mirena hormonal 5 years) and I LOVE it. I had it put in after my son was born. It went in at my 6 week check up. I had mild cramping for a day or two and spotting off and on for 6 weeks. I've had one super light period since the spotting stopped. My libido is back and better then ever. I had the same problem on the pill.

It was mildly uncomfortable but not painful to have placed, though I've heard it vary widely from woman to woman, depending on if you have had any vaginal births or not.

I love that it's progesterone only and that the hormones are fairly localized.

Dh can NOT feel the strings during sex (I drove him nuts asking at first).

The ONLY down side I have to it is that I can't move my period around if I have something important going on.

I have the Mirena IUD, and like it so far. I had no discomfort when it was placed, and have had spotting for about 9 weeks now. I like the fact that I don't have to think about it! I could never remember to order more pills. I haven't noticed a difference in my sex drive between the pills vs. the IUD though, so I can't help there.

A little about myself - I am 27 years old and have never had children. Once I got married in 2005, I decided to also have the Mirena IUD inserted and stop using the pill.

Here is what I like about the Mirena IUD:

  • Don't have to worry about taking a pill every day
  • Lighter, shorter
