I have a question for whoever can try to answer it. Has anyone ever gotten pregnant while they had an IUD in? I just went to the Dr. about how i was feeling I seemed to have the symptoms of being pregnant again. She's sending me to go have Blood work done so see if everything is working properly. I told her my concerns about being preg and having and IUD. The reason i had an IUD put in was so i could chose to be preg not just have it "happen" again.I have a new Family Dr. my old one went to a different practice and i'm not sure i like this new one. She was going to have me do a urine test but i couldn't "go" so I have an appointment next we to go over the blood test results. I have been told by a couple people that it's happened before. One woman was preg when i talked to her and said she had one in when she got preg. I've been considering taking a home test but i always have to be almost 2 months along before it'll show up on the test. I feel really bloated, been getting some stomach aches, some swelling in my fingers and ankles, very tired and my appetite has just recently picked up. I've been trying to "deny" these symptoms and say they're work related cuz i have sleep deprovation and i don't drink enough water. I work 3rd shift and have 3 kids at home and and 1 with his dad for the summer so you could say my sleep is in small incriments an hr or 2 here and there I try to catch up on my sleep on the week ends.I've had my IUD for a yr and a 1/2 and have had some simular symptoms before but not as much as now before my Gyno said i was just dehydrated and needed to take better care of myself by eating right and drinking more water and getting more rest.I havn't talked to my Gyno yet about this If anyone has any helpful info or experience with this or simular situation please let me know. Thanks.

After having it a year and a half I'd think you'd be ok.

Did you have the position checked a month after it was inserted? Which one do you have (copper or mirena) the copper has no hormones and the Mirena has progesterone.

Getting pregnant with an IUD is really rare. The only BC more effective then an IUD is permanent sterilization. The likelihood is less then 1%.

I have an IUD and I'm thrilled with it.

I know of a woman who became pregnant while she had an IUD, a woman who had her tubes tied, women on the pill, I got pregnant while on Depo Provera, a woman who's husband had 3 tubes instead of 2 and got pregnant after he had a vasectomy.. etc...

I got pregnant while on Depo Provera and I did not have a period during this time.. I got my first shot, 6 weeks post partum... and got pregnant when my son was 11 months old. Hubby and I were very fertile.

an IUD has an extremely high efficacy rate so the odds of you being pregnant are low... it's up there with sterilization. I've had the Paragard in for 10 yrs this summer.. absolutely love it... but if you feel "off", go with your gut. You know your body the best.... even if you're not pregnant, something else could be going on....

Good luck and I hope everything turns out how you want.

I've had the Mirena IUD for a year and a half and have not had any suscipions that I'm pretty. My period is lighter, but it is still coming. I have no signs or symptoms of ever being pregnant. From my understanding, the risk of pregnancy with the IUD is incredibly low. I'd be surprised if you were negative - but the tests results will give you the answer! Good luck!
