Hey,

So I wrote last week wondering why I had break through bleeding in the middle of my pills because I never miss one and I am very religous about taking them. Anyways so I was also complaining about my back pain so I finally went to the doctor yesterday and they told me I had a UTI, I was confused because I was not in pain when I urinated, but they tested my urine while I was there. So now I am on a anti biotic, I heard that when your on them it takes the effectiveness away from the BC? When I asked the Doctor yesterday she told me it was a myth. When I called my pharmacy today they told me to use extra protection. I am so confused...me and my bf have been together for two years and we only depend on the BC and pulling out. The doc told me not to have sex for 10 days (which is how long I am on the anti biotic) I am so worried, I dont know who to believe. HELP!!!

iv always been told that when your on anti biotics you must used a back up form of BC because they decrease the effictivness of your pills. i would wate be careful tell i had completed taking all of the anti biotics and then still be careful for 7 days of active pills after i was done with the anti biotics. Others will chim in shortly with their advice and recomendations

I just spoke with my Doctor again and he said not to worry about it. I am on my 3rd week of pills now I am worried I will not get my period next week, and this whole thing will screw up my cycle and BC. When will I get back to where I was with my body used to the BC pills?

I am also wondering if the UTI caused my break through bleeding last week do you think that could be the case?

I've heard of some woman getting pregnant on BC I dont understand if you take it on time everyday and do not miss a pill?

I dont want to be one of those woman :(

All I can say is to be careful! I had surgery last month and was on IV antibiotics for 2 days. I missed my bc pill for 2 days as well, and had to double up and take 2 pills a day for two days to make up for it. I was also in my third week. However, I was so sore that I couldn't have sex for about two weeks, so I didn't worry about that so much. I got my period as usual. When we did have sex, we used back-up. We usually just rely on the pill and WD, but he used condoms for back-up this time.

I just got my period today for this month, a few days later than usual. I was majorly worried for the past few days. I guess my system was just out of whack from the antibiotics and missed pills from last month.
I hope this makes sense, but it's better to be safe than sorry! Use back-up!
