Birth control while breastfeeding

OK Ladies,
Here's the most important question on my mind right now... What forms of birth control did/are you using while breast feeding? Prior to deciding to stop BC so that we could get pregnant, I was using the ring. I LOVED the ring and totally would love bringing it back. Anyone using this method now after baby (while BF)? A friend of mine told me that some types of birth control can mess up your milk supply... any truth? My doc appt isn't for another week even though my 6 weeks are up (couldn't get in any earlier unfortunately) and the hubby and I are, lets just say, anxious to get to each other LOL!
New mom & lovin it!

Congrats on your new baby! I had my son in December.
Some BC you should not take while BFing.
I believe that Nuva ring is advised against use during BFing because it can affect the supply. I do know a few women though that have used it but they didn't start using it til 4 or 5 months of BFing so their supply was really well established.
There is a mini-pill that you can take while BFing, again some women have reported a small dip in their supply. That pill is very picky though, you need to take it within a half hour of the same time every day and it's not as effective as a standard pill.
You could also opt for an IUD. There are two kinds and both can be inserted while BFing. The Mirena (good for 5 years has progesterone only hormones) or the Paraguard Copper (good for 10 years no hormones at all).
I had the Mirena put in a 6 weeks and LOVE it. I would highly recommend it to any women who aren't looking to TTC in the next 2-5 years. If you use it for at least 2 years you get your money out of it.
HTH!
Hi cookiemonstr21, welcome!
