Had unprotected ic on Tuesday night...was supposed to be safe, asit's CD 21, but woke up on CD22 with severe ovulation pain...took OPK's and they were + .... I'm 41 and a half, and I have 4 beautiful children...
MD told me to get plan B, DH is bringing it home now...
Anything I need to worry about?? Side effects??? I'm so scared to take it...
I took BCP's from about 20 years old until about 30, without minimal side effects ( weight gain, etc...) but revently have been successful with condoms and "timing"...
I now know that I can't rely on anything but condoms at this point...MD says that even though I have always been regular, that with advaced age comes irregularity in my cycles....
ANyway, I could use some advice on the Plan B thing ASAP!!!
Thanks in advance!!!
J

I took Plan B a few months ago (forgot that I was on antibiotics...oops).
Thanks so much!!
Took it last night and no issues... Took the last one this am,so we'll see!!
Thanks for the advice...Toni's book is/was my bible for about 10 years...had 4 children in 5 years becasue I knew my body so well, thanks to that!!!
Since we've decided that we weren't having anymore children, and since I'm almost 42, we've been very good at condoms...this was probably the first or second time without one...and in the 30 y ears that I have had my period, I've never ovulated later than day 18 so I assumed that day 21 was fine....
Well, as I just found out, as we age, our bodies change and just like a 26-27 day cycle won't be uncommon, neither will a 40 -41 day, which would put my O at days like 21 and 22...
So I guess I need to get back to temps etc...
How long do you thinks I should wait to start doing them??? My cycles will be messed up for about 2 or 3 cycles??
Thanks again for all of your help/support...I was freaking out yesterday!!!

Judie, I thought you were on NuvaRing? Am I wrong? Do antibiotics really interfere with the Ring? I would think they would be processed differently in the body ...
Anywho, I took Plan B last month (broken condom, wasn't on OC's) without a single side effect. Got my period 3 days early, it was extremely light; then spotted through the first 18 days of my next cycle, which was incidentally my first cycle on Yaz. It finally stopped a couple days ago. I consider that the only side effect I had. My sister took it and got nauseous but nothing too bad.
I am on the ring, but antibiotics can theoretically affect both your intestinal processing of the pill as well as the metabolism through the liver.
I don't think you need to wait to start temping--your temps will be high while you're under the effects of the progestin, just like post-O temps or higher, but at least you'd get back in the habit and see when things are starting to get groovy again.
This cycle and the next cycle could be weird, but if you're headed into the land of perimenopause the next 10 years of cycles could be weird. ;)
