Okay, this person could for sure be wrong, but I was reading on a friends blog how "high pg hormones is like taking birth control pills over the age of 40 and that is a risk factor" - she was talking about being afraid of having a stroke.

Now, I have always heard the risk factors are significantly higher for women over 35 who smoke...that they should not take BCP's, but what of us that don't smoke. I will be 40 this year and was planning on starting YAZ next cycle to help with my PMDD, but I don't want to take anything that would cause a stroke!

please give me the stats or a link to where I can see the stats for myself....I love bar graphs so if you know where any are??? :o)

Thanks

There may be some stats available at www.yaz-us.com under the prescribing informtion. Every BCP comes with stats I'm just not sure they are the ones you are looking for.

In general, Yaz and other low dose BC methods are viewed as having lower risk factors than the traditional BCPs with high does of hormones. That is one of the reasons they are so popular.

However, all women of your age group are at increased risk of blood clots and the possibility of stroke when taking a BCP. Most of us who have PMDD have felt that the benefits outweigh the risks. It is also very individual and your doctor can help you by laying out the risk factors based on your individual health history, which includes your family history of disease.

Check the patient information that comes with your pills (that little paper that you probably put right in the recycling).
