mirena and ic pain?

Hello,

I had my son 4 months ago and had my mirena iud insert on the 4th (of June). I did tear during my son's birth and had to have stitches, but they have since healed completely and my husband and i have had ic just fine without any pain. After my iud was inserted, I havent had many problems with it. I didn't have cramps at all, I havent had horrible bleeding, but I do still bleed some everyday. Its not enough for a tampon, so I have to use panty liners. Well, when DH and I try to have ic now, the pain is horribly unbearable unless he's on top. Its so bad I just start crying and don't want him near me. Its not because I'm not worked up enough so to speak. It almost feels like I still have stitches that arent healed and they are tearing open. Could this have to do with the iud, even though I'm not sure how? Or is this most likely a separate problem. I go next week for my check up, but I just wanted to see here first if there was a reason.

Thanks

thank you for your replies.

I saw my doctor today and he doesnt think the pain has to do with the iud. When I had my son he had to be pulled out by a suction cup because I was too numb from the epiduaral to push... which resoluted in a 3rd degree tear. And he thinks that now the area has healed and developed hard scar tissue which causes the pain. He also thinks that the blood from spotting daily is somewhat drying me out but not enough to make a big deal. My iud is still in the right position and the strings are in place, nothing else has been bothering me so thats what he thinks it is. If the tissue doesnt soften over time, I'll have to have a steroid inject to soften it.

well I'm sorry that there's not a quick fix for your problem. I'm glad to hear it's not really serious though.

Let us know how things go.

Congratulations on your son!

I had a baby in April, and I had Mirena inserted on June 10, so I know where you're coming from. I still have issues with stitches and scar tissue, much more than from the IUD. If you're experiencing pain more in your perinium, inner/outerr labia, or the skin inside the vagina, that's likely still from childbirth. Sometimes no amount of lube will make that go away, just a matter of healing time. I didn't have any stitches (this time) and I still have some pain from scar tissue from this delivery and the one prior.

If you're having pain up high, or that goes into your abdomen with ic, it wouldn't hurt to give your dr a call. I'm supposed to have a 6 week checkup for my IUD, maybe your dr has the same policy.

Take care,
Julie

Ooops! I didn't read through all the other posts, or your update! My apologies.

I have to agree with another poster, nursing affects everything in the vagina. Normally you have estrogen helping your tissues stay moist and happy. When you're nursing, prolactin, the hormone that triggers milk production, takes the place of much of the estrogen. This is how mother nature tries to keep us from having babies too close together, but nothing's perfect! It's a balance, more prolactin = less estrogen, so the less a mom nurses, the more estrogen she'll have, though nothing like what she would have if not nursing all all.

Is this your first baby? I've found that with each child, it takes longer and longer to heal up, and I have hardly had any stitches. With a 3rd degree tear, you're in for a decent amount of healing time, that's a pretty significant injury. Give your body a chance to get right again, lots of lube, and definitely don't rush. The more healed you get, it might start to hurt more instead of less as all the muscles get back into shape, but don't let that scare you.

Hang in there, best of luck!

Hello,

No, I'm not nursing. With my daughter, I breastfeed her for a week but my body couldnt produce enough milk to keep her satisified so I had to bottle feed her. With my son I was too discouraged to even try. So I dont think its the lack of estrogen.

He's my second. The two deliveries were completely different experiences. The pregnancies were pretty much the same, I had horrible morning sickness, lost weight in the beginning, and then gained it back and then some because of craving sweets. But with DD, my water broke 8 days before my due date, and she was born 5 hours later. She only weighted 5 pounds 15 ounces and I had 2 stitches. With DS I had a kidney stone at 26 weeks and after that I was in the hospital numerous times with preterm labor contractions and had the shots to stop contractions. At 37 weeks, I started having contractions, went to the hospital around 10pm and hung out over night. At 5 in the morning they gave me that medicine to induce labor, I forget what its called, it starts with a p i think. And I got an epidural. Around 10 they broke my water, and around 11 I started getting strong contractions and wanted to push at 11:30 but I had to wait for the doctor, at that time my epidural medicine wore off and i wanted more. So when the doctor finally got there around 12, I was too numb to push and they had to pull him out. I lost count after 10 stitches.

At my 6 week check up my doctor said everything was healed and DH and I could be inimate again. But I had to come back for a biospy on my cervix because I have HPV. Then when the results came back non-cancerous, I could go back and get my iud. And this whole time I never had any pain with ic. Then after I got my iud, it started to hurt. My doctor said it's probably just weird timing that it happened the way it did. My doctor said that the more often we have ic, the more the area with get softened and less painful. But DH and I only do about once every 2 weeks, so it looks like I'll have to get the steroid shot.

Thanks for your input. :)
