Ortho Tricyclen Question

I have a question I am hoping someone here can answer for me.

I am currently on Ortho Tri-Cyclen, I have been on this for about 2 years.

About a week ago my dog ate my birth control pills (took them off the table, he's fine btw).

I was on my second week dose, however, I wasn't thinking and when I started the new pack I didn't continue from where I left off with the other pack I just started from the 1st week again.

Now I am on the 2nd week of pills in this pack and am currently having my period. My question is this:

Should I be using another form of contraceptives until I finish this pack or should it be okay?

From my understanding the pills prevent you from having your period because they put up the level of hormones in the body to make it think it's pregnant. Since I am having my period now while on the pills would that mean they aren't doing their job?

My period should be over by the time the third week of the pills starts which would mean I have 1 week of the highest dose of hormone then I go on the placebo pills for a week. Should I maybe skip the placebos and go straight to the next pack to try and level everything out or should I just keep going like normal?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I agree with Jill, I would finish this pack, take your placebo week, and then go to a new pack.
