Hi gang! Long time no see.... :o) Hey Judie, hi Jill!

I have a question for the girls who have used Mirena, or are currently using Mirena. I just had my third baby 12 weeks ago, and I had Mirena inserted 11 days ago.

The overall insertion was no big deal, and I'm not having lots of pain or lots of bleeding. What I do have is almost a cycle, a couple days where I almost have cramps (they're that slight), then I'll spot for a couuple days (very very minor), then cramp, then spot, etc. Normal?

I would think the cramping and spotting would be consistent until my uterus is fully acclimated, but that might make too much sense... Any ideas? I see my doctor again in three weeks, but this didn't seem like a big enough reason to call him.

TIA!!

Hi Julie,
Congrats on the newest addition to your family! I got my Mirena May 10, when my son was 13 months old, so I’m not a veteran. I do like it and I had a really easy adjustment period. From what I understand, spotting can be pretty irregular for the first few months so I think you are ok. (I’m not a dr, so if you feel the need to call yours please do.)

I spotted for a couple of weeks starting about a week and a half after insertion. I’m pretty sure my af happened during that same time. I had a few days of bloating and pms type moodiness during the middle of the spotting. I am now having my second “af” if you can call it that. I had the same intense bloating (rings had to be removed and wore a bigger bra) but am only using a pantiliner each day for the tan discharge.

FYI: I just weaned my son a few weeks after the mirena was inserted, so I am just getting used to cycling again.

I hope you like yours as much as I like mine!

I had Mirena put in at my 6 week check up in Feb. I had spotting off and on for about 6 weeks. It was worse at the beginning and sort of tapered off.

Everything you said is totally normal if annoying.

Thanks Jill! I think I stopped hanging out here 2 children ago... :o) I'm still working back into work, so once that really ramps up, I'll probably be scarce, but you never know...

I'm doing better, I don't think I've had any cramping for 4 days, and the bleeding has also stopped, for now. So we'll see how it goes, but it's definitely a blessing to not have to worry about going to the pharmacy, nothing to think about, really. One less stress.

Hope you're well!

Take care,
Julie

Julie
I had the Paragard copper IUD inserted almost 10 yrs and never had acclimation problems. In fact, I haven't had any side effects. I love my IUD.

Good luck

HI, my name is Cindy. I had an IUD placed after my 3rd baby and it was horrible. I had to be on pain medication because of my cramps and I also had a UTI almost 2X a month so finally after 6 months I had a tubial. I would give it sometime but if your uncomfortable don't wait to long. My experience is that it works for some and not for others.
Good Luck...
