Anyone heard of this yet? It has recently gotten FDA approval and is growing in popularity. It replaces Norplant for birth control....

Feedback about it would be great!

Hi,
I had Norplant before and loved it. I was really excited about this when it came out; I even signed up on their website to be notified when a dr in my area offered it. My dr doesn’t offer it yet, so I got a Mirena IUD instead. I’m very happy with my choice and it’s been almost 2 months. Have you considered Mirena? I was very opposed to IUD, as was dh, until I found that I could not get Implanon in my area.

While I you are waiting for other responses about Implanon, go to the top of this page and type it into the search box. You will see all of the posts about it so far.

Good luck!

hi there! just had mine installed tuesday. installation isnt that terrible at all. small prick of numbing stuff, then quick prick for the implant. its weird, because it can be felt through the skin. its bumpy and strange. i have a HUGE nasty bruise on my arm, but it is slowly fading. i havent had any side effects or anything either. would you like me to keep you updated??

well thanks for the welcome!!! just wanted to say it has been a week now, and the bruise is all but gone. it ITCHES (site of installation) sometimes, and its so weird to scratch, because i can feel it through my skin, especially now that all the swelling is gone. and the feeling like there were bees stinging the inside of my skin went away too. i think this should be a good thing. if anything interesting happens, i will give an update. have a good one!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I wish you continued success. I used Norplant with success when it was available. I would have used Implanon if it were covered by my insurance, but it was not yet. Instead, I got a Mirena IUD which was only $15 for 5 years. Not bad!

Take care and keep us posted.
