Help! Is OTC-Lo the Mini Pill?

I was at work last night discussing OTC-Lo with one of my co-workers and she told me to be very careful because OTC-Lo or any low dosage BC pill is what they give to women who are breastfeeding. I have been under the impression that it is regular birth control and I'm freaking out now.

Could somebody tell me the difference between OTC-Lo and the mini pill?

I'm freaking out because I still haven't gotten my period and I"m on the last day of my inactive week. I've had period cramps since Monday and a little blood (nothing on the pad, just a bit when I went to the bathroom) on Thursday. My boyfriend and I have been using protection, and I've been taking my pills correctly and at the same time every night. I'm hoping that OTC-Lo is a regular BC and not the mini pill I hear about on here sometimes.

Thanks for the help!

Thank you so much for putting that fear to rest! I thought she had to be incorrect because of all of the information I have read but I just needed to hear it for sure.

No AF yet. I did have that little blood on Thursday night that I thought for sure was the start of my period, but it didn't last long. Could that be my period for the month if there's not enough lining to shed?

Thanks again for all of the information! :)

When you're on the pill, any red blood counts as a period.

Thank you for your response.

It's very interesting. I'm an identical twin and we both are on OTC-Lo. Since starting the pill in April, she has yet to get on a schedule either. We are both on a lot of other medications before BC. I'm also wondering if that has anything to do with it. I'm also thinking that maybe the 'twin thing', may have something to do with it too. Has anybody else heard of that happening with twins?

Thanks a lot again for all of your help.

Before starting on the pill, the doctor was aware of all of my medications and I actually had to get a note from endocrinologist (I think I spelled that wrong, sorry!) in order for them to even prescribe the pill to me. The endocrinologist said it was ok and that there was no reason that I couldn't start the pill even with all of the medicine that I'm on.

Since my sister still has yet to be regular - even get a period for last month (she's on her second week of active pills now, I'm wondering if it's just us.

I've read on here that sometimes if you're overweight that effects the pill too. Does it with OTC-Lo? Do you think my doctor would have prescribed knowing that I'm overweight?

Thanks for any information!

I am also an identical twin, and my twin and I have COMPLETELY different reactions to medications.
