I'm 35.4 weeks pregnant w/ our last baby & have signed papers for a tubal (for insurance purposes, need 3 mo for it to be approved)

I have the Mirena and love it. It's progesterone only and it's fairly localized so MOST women don't have a problem with the amount of hormone in it. It's safe for breast feeding moms as well, I had mine inserted at my 6 week post partum check up.

It's known for shorter, lighter periods where the copper version is known for heavier longer periods. I had about 6 weeks of spotting/bleeding but up to 6 months is normal for either version to let your body adjust to it. So be prepared to stick it out that long no matter what.

My period got shorter and lighter right away and now I hardly have anything, usually just a little spotting. My husband can not feel the strings during sex and I asked him a lot (lol).

I have one child but I know we're done and I'm keeping the mirena even after DH is snipped because I love it so much.

I had a tubal 4 1/2 years ago after the birth of my last child. If I could go back, I would NOT have the tubal done. It made my periods excruciating. They were so heavy I had to wear an ultra tampon plus a pad or I'd have a mess everywhere.

I got an IUD about 5 weeks ago because of the horrible cramping and bleeding. I've had light spotting since then but the one period I've had was just a little heavier than spotting.

I had a horrible experience with Mirena. I had my 3rd child and at my 6 week appt, had the IUD put in. Not a painful experience, but every period after that was about 10 days long. I'd bleed for 1.5 weeks (was originally 7 days without any type of birth control) with about 2.5 to 3 weeks in between periods. I was told to wait 4 months for everything to regulate. So I waited. And waited. Finally at 9 months post IUD, I called the dr to see what could be done (had been talking to them throughout the 9 months and they kept saying wait). They gave me a prescription. It did NOTHING. I finally had it removed at 12 months post and I've never been happier!!

I have a friend that has one and she loves it. For some reason, mine just didn't work for me. I had an ultrasound to check placement and all. I hope it works for you!

I've had Mirena for two years now and have liked it so far.
