get pregnant while using birth control?
I've been waiting to answer a question like this one around here!
This one is a good one -- a friend of mine (well, friend from long ago, haven't seen her in many years now) had her daughter just before my son was born.
One sometimes hears about babies born after tubes are tied or vasectomies. Rare, but it happens.
I know of three women. A very big group of people went to Vienna for an extended work trip, and they took their spouses and children since it was early summer. Three couples came back pregnant. My mother was one of them, our neighbour was another. They found out shortly after they had berated their friend for not being careful and getting pregnant "at their age", which at the time was the mid-30s.
Well my son was born with me being on the pill (albeit a bit sporadically) and a condom used (a bit haphazardly). Had I actually been more careful, and not been thinking it could never happen to me, I would not be blessed with my fabulous son, and I still believe that most birth control used properly by people is effective.
I do want to stress that I use the term "being protected" in a very loose sense since neither means were being properly administered at the time. I was not an exception - simply a foolish young woman.
I know one woman who did get pregnant taking birth control but she wasn't taking it correctly. She didn't start her next pack on time and oops! got pregnant. I couldn't believe she didn't know how to correctly take it.
I think most of the oops pregnancies are due to human error, either late or missed pills or on antibiotics.
The ones that happen after a permanent solution has been confirmed (a lot of guys never go back for that check up) baffle and terrify me. I swear we're BOTH going in at this point.
Many of us have been "foolish young women" Miranda.
There is a lady on my Playgroup that has gotten pregnant on nearly every form of birth control.
