Do you ever turn it back around on them?

Welcome! Some the the things you covered sound just like problems my husband has encountered.

Are you forced to spend time with BIL?

That sounds mostly lovely! We visit the ILs every Sunday for dinner as well but it is just seven of us and only one child. SIL & BIL are not even dating people so I'm not sure if/when any cousins will come into play, but I'm excited that Dagmar will know some more family than I did growing up. All my extended family was/is in Texas and my immediate family in Florida, and I was never close to any cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc.

It's a real bummer that you have to deal with someone so rude, though. I've never heard anyone argue that the new testament changed god's disposition. I've heard plenty of junk about how the "rules" changed (except, for whatever reason, the ten commandments, which were OT but everyone still cares… go fig) but… he's no longer jealous? Why would a perfect, omniscient, omnipotent being need to be jealous one day and not the next? Why would something like that change? Crazy.

FWIW, we feel the same way about marriage, but in our case, being citizens of different countries, getting legally married had too many benefits to ignore. I wouldn't be able to SAHM in Denmark otherwise. If I were Danish or he were American, my family would probably be complaining about our sinful lives.

also, Jesus never mentioned anything about homosexuality, it's only condemned (AFIK) in the OT, so why is it such a big deal?

I think you've nailed it for me. Unlike most people here who are atheists because god and bibles sounds ridiculous, I am an atheist because I'm spiritually lazy.

I can't be bothered pushing myself to believe in supernatural answers to life's riddles. I'd rather watch a good movie or read a good book.

It's just such a funny way to look at atheism. Just too spiritually lazy to bother with it all.

I hope you're not still battling the sil and bil, btw.
