Playtex Hip Hammock?

Hi all!
I just read the thread about toddler slings, but I'm wondering what anyone thinks about the Playtex Hip Hammock. DS is 16 months, almost 30 lbs, and about 33 in. long. We have a back carrier (Mountain Equipment Co-op), which I love, but I wanted something small, less bulky, and so I could be more "snuggly" with him, and interact more.

Thoughts?
TIA!
jane.

fwiw, I have an original hip hammock (before playtex bought it) and I can still use it for my 4 year old. SO, I think you will get plenty of use out of it, and they are easy to resell..

Thanks! I actually just went out and bought one and used it when I picked up a few groceries on the way home! So far, I really really love it, and so does DS!
I was kind of hoping/assuming that the 35 lb limit didn't *really* apply, so after what you said, I guess I assumed correctly! :) I mean, it also says 3-12 months on it, and that doesn't really make a whole lot of sense.

Thanks again you two!

Jane,

Just an FYI - This item was recalled by Playtex not too long ago.

Most 4 year olds weigh 35-40 lbs, so most people can use them for that long...My 4 year old weighs 38 lbs and has for a long time!

Thanks Gabriel. I did notice the box said "Improved" on it, and there was a sign about a recall to anyone who purchased a Hip Hammock before March 2005. Thanks for the heads-up though.

Sara, yeah, I figured now that DS is over a year his weight gain is going to slow down a alot, so I don't expect he'll be 35 lbs anytime soon (he's about 28.5 now).

DS is sick, so it's extra handy having this around now because he's so sad and snuggly. Poor guy.

Do you guys have a web link to this product, I think I would like to try it, we have only tried different kinds of snuglies, the one we have been using the longest, is kind of bulky too, but that is not a problem for me, it is the thick material that it is made out of, it would come in handy for winter, but summer, not his fave thing to be in...

Thank you so much in advance, and have a great day,

Blanca

Here you go Blanca. What I love about the Hip Hammock is it's so fast and dead easy to get on and off.

They can't be bought new in the US anymore, but you can find them on Ebay sometimes...I love mine, it is nicer fabric than the Playtex ones, and sold by a WAHM instead of a big company :)

Ooo...that does look like much more comfy fabric. So if this person was bought out by Playtex, is it still ok for her to be selling them? Or she just can't sell them in the US? I should have tried to find one in Canada...ah well. I'm still happy with my purchase. :)
