Hi there. I recently bought a baby sling and can't wait for my little one to be born so I can use it! But I was thinking it ould be nice to have a wrap too. It looks like it would be quite simple to make. Have any of you made your own wraps? If so, how long and how wide did you make it, and out of what type of fabric?
TIA

I haven't tried a wrap as I am worried about ds and I over heating while wrapped up in it. I know a number of people that have and they have used a variety of woven fabrics. Check out www.mamatoto.org for tips and ways to wear your new wrap.

Thanks! I hadn't looked at that website in a while, looks like they updated it because I didn't see that there before!

you need about 5 yards of fabric, about 25 to 35 inches wide. it can't be stretchy lengthwise, some widthwise strech is fine. If it is too stretchy lengthwise it won't work with a heavier older baby, but it will work great with a newborn. Jersey works well for newborns, it doesn't need to be sewn. You can just cut it to width. Woven fabrics need to be finished in some way.

you can get lots of wrapping help at wearyourbaby.com (same as mamatoto.org) and thebabywearer.com There is also an excellent babywearing DVD with a long wrapping section, the woman on the DVD is from mamatoto. "tummy2tummy" http://www.tummy2tummy.com/

I make wraps. I like to use both a knit, and a woven fabric.
