Okay
I don't really know the difference here. What is the difference between a therapist and a PDoc? I am assuming PDoc is a psychiatrist. Is a therapist another term for counsellor? I am also assuming that a therapist cannot presribe meds.
Pamela

You are correct in each instance!

My family doctor sent me to a psychiatrist for my anxiety because he prescribed me anti-depressants (20mg Cipramil). When medications are involved, only a shrink can prescribe and alter the dosage (apart from your family doctor).
When it comes to counselling/CBT, therapists, psychologists etc. are probably just as helpful and skilled in dealing with our wide range of problems!
One other big difference where I live, is that the consultation fee that shrinks charge can be claimed back through our public health system and a psychologist's fee cannot. It can only be claimed back through private health cover which makes it difficult for some people without health cover.
Which ever professional you choose - it's all good.
