Have your doc write the prescription as 75mg x 2 daily. Your insurance shouldn't give you any problems after that. My dh's doctor has him on 225 mg daily, and we had to get the Rx for 75 mg 3x daily for the insurance to pay for it.

Deb,

mine is almost the same way but they tell me when I can get a refil done and say my dosage is up'd then I cant get a refil for the new dosage I have to double up on what I have then when the time comes they will give me a refil so I end up running out of meds too soon freaking out cause I dont have any calling in a fit and then after I end up looking like a lunatic they give me my refil what is wrong with these people they get their money eather way you look at it so what is the big deal.

Insurance companies really need to stop acting like gods I agree with you on that one totally and completly but there is nothing we can do for we are not gods just mere mortals.

take care

Deb,

I can't really give you any advice because I don't live in the US.

I just HAD to tell you that my sides are sore from your post. The last line with the smilie, I totally have the giggles now.

Laughing still

Ya' know there are articles on medical related sites about insurance companies basically making medical decisions (and we are talking about clerks with a medical technician level of expertise or less).

As an aside, 225mg daily is the max dose recommended by the pharmaceutical company.

So I'm not sure how somethins like 150 (75 x 2) would be unusual, unless they considered Effexor too expensive. Even getting care at a MTF (military outpatient), I run into meds that they aren't allowed to prescribe at all, others that they limit to 8 weeks ('cause of cost) and still others that you have to get permission from the head of your medical department in order to prescribe.

Meds are the biggest cost for most insurance companies. Or in my case military treatment facility.

Deb,

You think BlueCross sucks, just think of AEtna. It's an HMO, so most doctors don't accept it. The insurance company tells me which doctors i can go see. When I finally admitted to myself that I need therapy and tried to find a doctor, they sent me a list of doctors in my area. 6 out of 7 were not accepting new patients or simply did not pick up the phone. I finally had success with doctor office #7. Now what i have to think about is that they cover only 20 visits a year. Since i just started, I have to go at least once a week. Do they think i'm going to be cured exactly after 20 visits. Do they know something i don't?
