Hello everyone. I am 22 years old, and this Wednesday I will finally be going to therapy for the very first time for depression. I would like some insight because I have no idea what to expect. What type of questions do they ask on the very first visit? The secretary said something about coming in half an hour early so I could be evaluated first - what exactly happens during evaluation? I think I have been dealing with this since I was 13, so im going to dig out my old diaries tonight so I will be able to tell the therapist exactly what I was feeling and for how long.

(((Babyfase)))

They will ask you about your history and things that you want to work on. They will ask why you called and think you need therapy.

Welcome to the board.

Welcome to the board!

First of all try and relax about your therapy visit, the main thing to remember about therapy is there are no Wrong answers hehe.

Its good that you are going back thru your journals to try and remember feelings and thoughts that you had, the most important thing you can do is be honest with your therapist even if its hard or seems silly at the time.

Mostly in the begining you will be asked lots of background questions, about yourself and about your family (some types of depression seem to run in families) there will be lots of health related questions to rule out other medical probelms but its not hard at all.

Just try to relax and let the therapist get to know you and you get to know him or her. Most likely they will explain their methods and expectations and ask you what you expect too.

Good luck sweetie and let us know how it goes.. I will keep you in my thoughts.
