My family Dr, has me on Wellbutrin 2x a day and the other week also included Lithium 150mg 1x a day. He said that usually Dr's prescribe people with manic depression alot higher and that the Lithium is to increase the Wellbutrins effects. Has anyone heard of this? He is also refering me to a psychiatrist. This is the first time in 12 years that a Doctor has taken me seriously about how I feel. It feels good to know that someone believes me about what I have to say. When I was younger I saw one but he sent me over to a Social Worker because I was told I was having trouble going through puberty (i was 14). It angers me to know that if that psychiatrist followed through and took me seriously maybe I would be a happier person right now. I still am struggling with the feeling of failuer as a mother for what is going on. I know that I don't have "control" of what is happening but I feel so much guilt for what they may see one day or even worse what if they go through this too? Got to go, this is probably long winded enough anyways ;)

I understand where you are coming from. I too am bipolar(manic depressive). I take wellbutrin, lexapro, trazadone, and neurontin for my bipolar. I am glad your found someone who is taking what you say about how you feel seriously. Also you doctor taking action to give you meds to help you, and refer you to a psychiatrist. I really hope these meds help you. Let the doctor know if you have any side affects so he can adjust the dosage or the meds. Taking meds for manic depression is important because of the extreme ups and downs and other symptoms of the illness. One good thing, someone seen what your problems is and now you can start treating it and feeling better.

About feeling guilty about what you have done or haven't done being a mom is normal when you suffer from a mental illness and even mothers who don't feel this. Remember you are seeking help and you are taking action to make yourself better. I had those feelings too and still do at times but I try not to beat myself up so hard and I would hope you will try to not beat yourself up either because our illness is not our fault. I do understand how the shame of it can affect you. The disappointment of not being able to do the things you want to. This illness has interfered alot with my life, but I guess it could be worse. Anyway back to your guilt, showing your kids you love them and taking action to help yourself will make you feel better. You will start to feel better with the meds and be able to function better and in turn that will help the guilt subside. I really do wish you all the best. Keep us posted we all care about you. If you want you can e-mail me. You can click on my e-mail in my profile.

Happy Holidays and stay safe!!!!
