First let me apologize for the hat in the previous posts! My computer is just acting up today!!

Well,

We had a pretty nice day. I didn't feel too badly, except for the pain-which is a 24/7 thing, and am just working through it. Of course, I didn't get enough sleep, so that really didn't help, but what are you gonnna do?

The day ended rather badly though. My 17yr old's cat was recently diagnosed with cancer. She passed yesterday, without pain-thankfully-around 5pm. "Patches" would've been 17 in a couple of months!! Luckily, the ground here isn't frozen yet, or it would have made it a lot harder on us!! I guess the "gift" in this, was that she didn't suffer at the end, she just laid down, and left! My 18yr old has Patches sister, Suzy, and the two of them have never been apart for more than a day or so. Not sure how she will handle this! Not sure how we will handle this!! The two cats live at my mom's, for reasons from dh, which aren't really relevant right now. But, when I looked back on her life with us, and with my mom, I just feel so damn guilty! Like, I didn't do enough, or wasn't there enough after they moved in with my mom. I know that beating myself up won't bring her back, but being an absolute animal lover, well. . . I don't know.

Thanks for letting me vent!!

I hope you all have a good day today!

Blessed Be!

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Patches. I am a huge cat lover and can certainly understand how you must all be feeling, it's good that she didn't suffer at the end. Don't feel guilty, I am sure you did everything you could for the cats and that this one had a great life. I hope that her sister adjusts to being alone now, maybe some extra love and attention will help her get through the adjustment! Sending hugs your way!!!

Laure,

I lost my 18 year old dog over a year ago. He had cancer too. But he died of heart failure. It was a blessing because I don't think I could have put him down. I too had guilt that he didn't have a happy enough life. It wasn't my fault. We had adopted him a year earlier from a very abusive home. We tried to make him as happy as we possibly could. So many animals suffer inhumanities in this world. You gave your cat all the love you could. You had your mother take over when you couldn't provide it a home anymore. You know that the cat knew you loved it.

I believe that animals go on to a better place, just like people do. I've read many books on people who have died and been resuscitated. They tell that now well-known story of going through the light to a being of light, as well as loved ones who have passed on before them. And they include stories of people seeing their deceased pets at the end of that tunnel.

The grief at losing a pet isn't something that anyone can make better. It takes time and tear. I still miss the dog I grew up with. But I talk to him sometimes. And the dog I have now looks almost exactly like my old dog. They are both mutts with an unusual look. To me it is far more than a coincidence that I ended up with a dog that looks like my old dog. I got him at the pound. When we went to find a dog, he was the only small dog available. I had asked both my deceased dogs to send me another dog that really needed love. And here was just one small dog who looked almost EXACTLY like the dog I grew up with. I know my other dogs sent him to me.

I am also a huge animal lover. I don't eat mammals or birds. I don't feed my animals other mammals. I'm thankful that people are starting to get more pets fixed so there aren't so many unwanted pets in the US. It's sad that so many countries have strays that overrun the streets. It breaks my heart that millions of animals are treated like they have no feelings. They are kept in torturous conditions and killed in horrific ways. The best we can do as animal lovers is to love the animals we live with and not contribute to the pain of other animals.

You have given your cat a good life with loving homes. That's the greatest thing we can ever do for an animal.

All My Best,

Maria;

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond to my post about our cat. It really helps to know that there are others out there who have gone through this experience, and don't just write it off as 'weird or absurd'!

I hope that you are having a good day today!
