Help! In Need Of Some Creative Ideas!!!

Hello Everyone,

I am in need of some creative ideas for non-conventional flooring. We are running low on funds and it looks like we will have to wait on the flooring for a few years. Therefore, if anyone has any ideas of what I can do with my floors until we can afford to cover them I would greatly appreciate any ideas. What we will have is just the plywood that was used to cover the floor joists. We thought that we could paint them but if anyone has an idea of a different kind could you please pass it along.

Because of fact that we did not have a roof on before the weather turned bad, we have sustained some heavy water damage to the plywood. My mother-in-law and I spent the better part of the weekend plus Monday trying to get rid of the standing water and I will have to return tomorrow and try to mop or vacuum up the last of it. So the plywood is most likely warped and there is many rusty nail marks on the plywood. I would like to find some way to make the floors look nice for now until we can cover them.

Thanks for listening and if you have any ideas please pass them along.

Warm Regards,

oh, what a project! you could paint them, just not conventionally. you could paint them and pattern them, either a set stencil such as along the edges or random designs or if you want to take your time you could marble them. you could splatter them or you could make them look like hardwood or rosewood. you could make them look like beadboard. any of the painting techniques you will need to seal with several coats of polyurethane, but if sealed properly should last you a while. let me know if any of these appeal to you, more than glad to help. also you may want to try out hgtv.com... they always have some great ideas. best wishes.

Hi Me,

Wow what good suggestions, I would like to know more about the technique used for making the floors look like marble, in fact I think I like the hardwoods too. Could you please enlighten me as to where I may find some instructions for these techniques or could you coach me? I know that this is going to be a big under taking but I just do not know what else to do. I had thought maybe of letting the little ones dip their hands in paint and then put their handprints on the floor in their bathroom.

Thank you again for your response and I will take a look at HGTV.

Warm Regards,

all look like good articles. one is about marbling. of course that one takes a while, but the results are great looking. as far as looking like hardwood, i am trying to find one. there is one that makes the board look like rosewood, a darker wood with red highlights. i know that there a free faux painiting workshops at the home depot in my area, maybe check and see if there is one near you.

i am sorry took me a while to respond. i have so busy and tired lately. let me know what you think of the articles. best wishes.
