Hi, All

I've been on meds for depression for 2 years now .. it's always helped ... now it's not .. I'm cycling down, down ... and an increase in meds didn't help .. while I await my doctor's appt., they're suggesting counseling would help, as well .. how can this be?? If this is a chemical imbalance, as is so evident, how can counseling help? I've got a wonderful life .. nothing upsetting, nothing stressful ... anyone else with a similar scenario? Do you see a counselor? Does it actually help?

Thanks.

I go to therapy once a week and I see a shrink once a month and ya it does help even if we dont talk about anything big it does help to talk to someone that has no personal involvement in my life, I also take meds.

I would suggest you see a therapist but you need to do what is best for you to do

Welcome to the board (((((Denise)))))

Sometimes things have happened to you that you can't remember. Or you might think that they are no big deal. It certainly wouldn't hurt to go and see a therapist. And if you don't see any benefits after a few sessions, stop going.

Take care

Welcome!!

First off its possible that the weather( meaning winter )may have something to do with your meds not working as well. I know my doctor said sunshine and exercise can help depression as much as meds do and we dont get as much of either this time of year.

As far as Therapy goes, I am one who thinks it works Very well! Even though you may not have "issues" or problems that you think are causing your depression, many times someone objective to talk to about your life in general may help put things in perspective and help in lots of ways besides your mood.

Everyone does what works best for them though! So only you can know !

Hope you will "hang out' with us here at the board.. Looking forward to getting to know you!

I love my therapy! I've only been twice, but it feels wonderful to be able to say what I really think and have someone really talk to me about what's best for me. I'm going through a lot right now, so I really need it. I agree with others, it wouldn't hurt to try.

Thank you, all. For sharing your experience and the warm welcome! I'll consider further the benefit(s) of counseling. I think it's something I'll have to include in my life ... I have survived some horrific things in my life .. and I've always thought I've done so incredibly well at not allowing them to make me a victim for life .. that I've done so well at coping with them .. maybe I'm not coping, afterall ... maybe, just maybe, talking to someone will help .. even if I don't quite see how right now. Thanks, all!
