I was wondering if you have some coping skills that you find helpful in dealing with your depression? I suffer from chronic severe pain and have been diagnosised with depression and stress anxiety. I have received some counseling. But, I also feel I should be doing more. Especially those days when my pain is extreme bad and I just cannot stand it. Thank you in advance.

I don't know if this will help you, but when I get totally stressed out/anxiety, I try to get involved in a really good book, or go on the computer. I love to read and I can totally relate to the characters in the book, so it takes me away. Find something you really like to do and get involved in it. I also have a prescription for Xanax from my Dr if I feel a panic attack coming on. I don't use them very much, but they do work.

for me I work out I do yoga 6 days a week and since it takes such focus and works every part of your body it helps me relax and it takes my mind off of the stuff that is getting to me.

Or I write in my journal if it is something that is really naging at me and writting it out usually helps me look at it from all angles rather than just one.

Relaxation tapes were what my Therapist recommended for me.

I love to journal and I find getting out what is bothering me helps. Posting here helps and if I had a computer at home I am sure I would post more. I also like to play board games and video games. I also love to get involved in a good book and a good movie. I also enjoy listening to music and I am an adult but I do love to color. It relaxes and calms me. Hope some of these work for you. Andrea

A woman named Belleruth Naparstek has done some wonderful guided meditation tapes, some of them for specific conditions and others for general relaxation.

Thank you for your response. Yoga has been helpful to me. I really enjoy the relaxation exercises. It's good to see how other's deal with their depression. It gives me other ways to deal with mine.

Thank you for your response. I haven't listen to any relaxation tapes. I will try checking some out from the library and go from there.

Thank you for your suggestion. I do agree that checking out message boards like this one can be helpful. It reminds me that I'm not alone. I don't work any longer so I don't get the opportunity to interact with people. I have more time on my hands to focus on my problems and pain. Thanks again.
