I am in the process of checking into this but I thought I would ask incase anyone here has any info.

Has anyone heard of an Individual Health Care Plan that covers Mental Health for depression?

I live in Louisiana.

I checked my policy I have with Blue Cross and it DOES NOT cover any treatment for Mental Disorders.

I wouldn't mind so much paying out of pocket if the Dr visits didn't cost SOOO much.

Thanks

I don't know of any individual insurance plans that cover mental health, but there are a couple of places that can be checked with to see if you can find someone on a sliding scale.

Thanks for the info - I will check into these other options.

I am self employed so that is why I was asking about individual plans.

Going through my primary care physician is how we have managed in the past. And that worked of labeling it under something else.

I just thought it would be better to go to a specialist and get better care. But after finding out how much they charge for out of pocket is ridiculas!

I'm on Blue Cross on self-employed insurance. My doctor prescribes my antidepressants and they cover it. They don't cover therapy, which is the main reason I'm not going right now.

Trac's suggestions are the best ones I know. Catholic Charities can hook you up with clinics that may be able to get you free medication. CC can also probably get you free counseling. You don't have to be destitute to get their services.

Welcome to the Board!
