In my experience, I've always seeen an M.D. (whether it be a general physician, a family practitioner, or a psychiatrist) for medication and a "counselor" or licensed therapist for weekly chat time.

In most cases, psychiatrists don't counsel patients because they bill at a much higher rate and insurance won't pay.

Regardless of credentials, the most important thing is to find a therapist who you LIKE!

Good luck and feel well!

I see a pdoc once a month for meds to heck and see how they are working if I have side effects need the dosaged upped the visit usually lasts 30 minutes and once a week I see a therapist to talk about stuff sometimes it is just the usual stuff that is going on sometimes it is more intense.

I would suggest seeing a pdoc and a therapist once again that you like and that works for you.

Hi hun!

I also saw my Regular physician for my meds and the saw a CSW (clinical social worker) as my Therapist... in my case they were in the same office so could share info ( with my permission) which made it great.

I agree the most important thing about your therapist is it

Hi, (((((Sara)))))!

My family doctor handled my meds until they quit working for me despite two increases in dosage.
