Report Card Day *sigh*

Today I got my report card today. It is okay...

Social Studies (US History)- A

Reading- A

English G/T- C

Math (Geometry G/T)- B

Science (Physical Science G/T)- B

P.E.- A

Art- A

Orchestra- A

I think it is a miracle...considering I have been drained of energy/motivation this year. I am so surprised that I actually passed. I was at a low D in math in the beginning of this quarter, so I guess I have improved! :B

The reason I have a C in English is that I have been reading the Odyssey, and I don't understand one word...so I stopped reading it. My English teacher thinks that I am not 'showing adequate effort.' Whatever.

Byezz!

KrazyKat,

I was in English major in college, but I relate to what you are talking about. I could not get through the Iliad in high school. I tried again in college, but kept falling asleep during the long descriptions of people's entrail getting cut out in different ways during battles. How many ways can someone's entrails get cut out of their bodies? Apparently, endless ways. Ick.

I highly recommend Cliffs Notes! I used to read the Cliffs Notes versions of Shakespeare's plays before I read the original version. That helped me to know what the heck I was reading. Cliffs Notes definitely got me through the Iliad.

I really liked the Odyssey. I mean, Odysseus was a jerk and all. He was trying to get home and it took him like 20 years. He hung out with that witch chick for like 14 years. Meanwhile, Penelope was trying to stave off all of these "suitors" who were demanding that she pick one of them to marry so he could take Odysseus's place as king. He's off sleeping with the island chick while his wife is keeping his kingdom together for him. Like I said, he was a jerk.

I guess I mostly liked it because it was so much more readable than the Iliad. It's all relative.

Xena did an episode about Odysseus called Ulysses. It was in the first or second season. Seeing that might make it funner. You could rent it to jumpstart your reading. Though in the book, it wasn't Xena that strung the bow for him. ;-) Xena took creative license with historical and mythological events.

Cliffs Notes are probably your best bet. You can get them at any bookstore. You might even be able to get them at the library.

Your report card is excellent! Did you say that you are 13? I didn't take Geometry until I was 16. That's a very hard class because you have to memorize all of those boring postulates. And like I said, I didn't have to read the Odyssey until college.

You should be very proud of your report card. That is a lot of work you put in to get those grades. Are you in middle school or high school. I still can't believe what high level work you are doing.

I am getting my master's degree right now. Tonight I have to write a short research paper on crystal meth addiction. The one thing I can tell you from all of my research is that crystal meth will give you permanent brain damage. It can also make you psycho for the rest of your life. It's a bad drug, maybe the worst of all of them.

I guess better learn more if I'm going to write a whole paper on it.

Way to go, KrazyKat! It's hard to do anything when you have depression, let alone get the great grades you did.

All My Best,

MariaC
