Valentines Day -- single people left out
| Wed, 02-11-2004 - 3:40pm |
I hate Valentines Day. It is so commercialized, and no one seems to give consideration to single people. Most people seem to think I want to be included in any act re: this stinking day, and it just makes me feel worse and my depression plummates deeper and deeper. I'm glad it's on Saturday this year; I think I'll be hibernating all day.
I'm so tired of being lonely, job hunting for ages, and the death of my cat almost a year ago (I really dread 3/9).
I know I'm not the only one to feel like this, and I could be worse off, but I just had to get this off my mind.

You have every right to feel the way you do about the holiday I think that all single people get that way about Valentimes day at least once or twice or more times in their lives but think of it this way, yes this year I do not have a boyfriend to celebrate it with and I am single right now which sucks but why cant we show love for the people we are with all of the time why do we have to pick one day to get out all the love we have towards that person, why cant we show them every day that we are with them that we love them and cherish them.
that is just my take on Valentimes day
Yeah all Holidays are hard for someone
*hugs
I have always loved Valentine's Day!

Im sorry for your sadness. I know what you mean. The media and stores just make a huge deal with it as a scam to make money, and then it becomes this huge obligation for ppl to buy each other stuff...and it becomes this horribly sad day for many singles.
Its all silly. I suggest you buy yourself some nice flowers on Friday, and be happy that you have yourself! Our own selves should be the best friend that each of us has right?
Take care HUGS
I know. I hate this goofy holiday too. Being a teacher though, it's fun to see my students get all excited. I feel that this "holiday" is more about having fun with the kids, than it is for myself. Let's face it...Hallmark made it up!! (Although nothing tops their "sweetest day" crap...what the heck!?)
The older I get, the more I realize that holidays are about having fun withthe children in your life, and making them feel special. No kids in your life (I just have my little cousins I spoil rotten!), focus on the good...mom, dad, gramma, grandpa, whoever.
Hope this helps. I know how crappy this holiday is...especially when you're single. I have a boyfriend...but he's going to spend the day studying, and then we're just going to rent a movie, cause he's gotta wake up early on Sunday to study more. How romantic!?
Take care, and know we're thinking of you.

P.S. Sorry about your cat :-(
It's a conspiracy of Hallmark, See's Candy,1-800-FLOWERS, and jewelry stores to make some cash in the slow season.
Do you really think people run around being romantic on VAlentine's Day? I'll bet it causes more fights than anything. Do you want to see something funny? Look down the card section of your nearest grocery store or drug store ON Valentine's Day. You'll see a bunch of confused and desperate-looking men last minute shopping for something for their wives without a clue. Most of them were probably sent there by wives who are mad the guys forgot the holiday in the first place.
Be good to yourself on Valentine's Day. That's what I'm going to do. I think I'll go to the movies by myself because my dh will be out of town for the whole week!

(((Brit)))...I just reread my post to you and it sounded very insensitive...I am so sorry.

As a single (again), I'm familiar with the "left out" feeling associated with Valentine's Day.
Here is a suggestion for you. Since you are indeed feeling lonely and want to hibernate tomorrow - why not go to the local animal shelter tomorrow and find yourself a new love instead? There are hundreds of kitties that would love you and whom you would love. This will not 'replace' your cat, but you will find other space in your heart for a new furry friend. Animal companionship can help fill that loneliness in your heart.
I hope you will! Hugs for you.

Take care of you and don't focus on what everyone else is doing on Valentine's Day, or any day for that matter.
