Bi-polar? (trig)
| Mon, 02-23-2004 - 3:02pm |
When I was young, about 7, my parents got divorced. When they spilt I lived with my father. Well, my father is bi-polar. He went to the doctor, but never took any medication or anything to make him feel better. So he had these fits, its like his personality would completely change. I was wondering if anyone out there knew if this could be hereditary. If anyone knows the answer that would be awesome. Thanks so much.

I just wanted to welcome you to the board hun.
I really dont know alot about BiPolar, but I do know that sometimes these things run in familys but I'm in no way certain it is hereditary.
I do know several ladies here are sure to have more information on this for you so sit tight hehehe..
Glad you joined us!!

Hi..I can tell you that it does run in families.
CL for The
I was diagnosed with having bipolar disorder,, and I dont know of anyone in my moms side of the family who has had mental illness..and I dont know anyone on my dads side at all I have heard stories about an uncle who was not all there and I dont know my dad really I met him when I was 21 and we did not get alot drug user alcoholic ect..I think he had mental illness also but I cant diagnose him but I think that is why I got it because my dads side is a little off.
So anyways before I confuse you more I was diagnosed a year ago and I am on a mood stabilizer right now and it helps not 100 percent but it helps I have very erratic mood swings I can be happy one minute and two seconds later I am pissed off and feeling crazed I guess I never went on spending sprees I never did the typical BP stuff but the erratic behavior was enough for my pdoc..
Do you ask this question because you feel that you may be bipolar?
My son he has a mood disorder also but he is too young to be diagnosed his doctor put him on an antipsycotic and it has helped with his moods he is on it to stabilize him plus it has helped with his rather small appitite.
Sorry if I am not making alot of sense right now it has been a really bad few days but I figured I would try to help as best I can..
I do hope the other ladies are able to help you out better than I have.
