Does your family doctor know about other medications you take?

Hi Barb,

I dont tell my doctor what I take other than my nuerontin and my bc pill other than that I just tell him that I take vitamins and nothing else but it is out of fear that he may try to make me stop taking the other pills and I am nopt ready nor do I want to do that.

I know that there could be interactions and stuff like that but I dont think about it not because I dont want to think about it but because I just dont care right now maybe someday I will but for now my fears control me.

I know that I really should tell my doctor but at this point in my life I have too many fears.

Thanks for the reminder, Barb...my doctor does know about all the prescriptions I take, and I've also told him about my multivitamin and the one supplement I take regularly (5-HTP), although he doesn't seem to care or know much about it! I haven't told him about the OTC meds I take occasionally...I already feel like I give him too much unnecessary detail, and I feel like if I told him I use eye drops for my dry eyes, or the occasional Aleve I take for cramps, he would think I'm just wasting his time!

I know this is probably an inaccurate interpretation of the situation...I do let my doctor know about everything that I feel could possibly cause an interaction...and I am careful about other OTC meds I take. I know that doing that is really important...and I should probably stop worrying about what my doctor thinks of me...so thanks again for your post.

thanks- you are totally right- good advice. i know some pharmacies (like walgreens) will keep track of all of the prescription meds you are taking and tell you if there is an interaction.
