Fed Up!

I am so tired of taking antidepressants! I have been on Zoloft for just over a year and sometimes I have to increase the amount a bit and then a little later I decrease again. Before that I was on Celexa for a year. I am 23 years old and I am tired of 1. Being depressed and 2. Taking medication to try to feel like a normal human being. Several people have said that the meds make me seem happier but I feel like I'm still not myself. I'm not AS depressed, but I do still have the depressive episodes. I feel like I do and say things sometimes without thinking about them. I get obsessive about people or things and I just can't let go. With the antidepressants I just bug them until I think they must hate me but without them I get really depressed and I think (only think) about suicide. 4 1/2 years of living with depression is way too long. I have to find a way out of it because I feel like I'm going completely and utterly insane!

Thanks for listening to my ramblings. I have posted here before and everyone is so good about helping me through the really tough times when I feel like I don't have a friend to turn to or that no one else understands. Good luck to you all and if anyone has any advice about how to beat this without meds (and trust me, my 23years have seen enough psychologists... its not all my dad!) PLEASE let me know. Thank you so much!

Carrie don't give up!

It took me quite a while to get on the right dosage and combo of meds (2 to 2.5 years), so I know where your coming from.

The process of working through depression and living your everyday life can seem insurmountable, but you can do it. And it is soooo, worth it.

Other things that can help are:

- A health diet. Your body needs to right nutrition to properly take care of itself. Greasy or high fat foods can make you feel worse. Especially these days where low or no carb is all the craze. Your brain needs carbs to produce seritonin - balance is key.

- Volunteer work. It helps to put occasionally put your focus on others. It get you out of that space in your head where the depression can overwhelm you and its all you think about.

- Use your therapist. I remember there were days when I went into therapy and didn't even want to talk. I'd be mad, sick of everything. But that space allowed me to feel that of whatever other emotion in a safe place.

Hope this helps.
