Some people here have indicated an interest in 5-HTP for treatment of their depression.

Thanks, Barb...I'm sorry I haven't been around this week to reply to posts. I have wondered about this issue before too...since I do take 5-HTP along with two antidepressants (Prozac and Pamelor, both very low doses). My doctor knows that I take the supplement, and he even told me to keep taking it because it has helped my migraines so much, but I think he (like many "mainstream" doctors) has no idea what it is or what interactions it may have.

I think this may be a general problem, that traditionally educated doctors are not very informed about supplements or their interactions...so it is hard to get a medical opinion on what combinations of prescriptions or supplements may cause trouble. I completely agree with you that no one should start taking 5-HTP without talking to their doctors...I just wanted to point out a possible complication.

Anyway, I hope you and everyone else on the board is doing well...I have been doing little else except working and sleeping lately (and eating, probably gaining many pounds)...I did find out today that I got put on a waitlist at my top med school, which isn't great because I didn't get in...but other than that, not much new in my life...

Hope you have a good Friday,

Rose

Well, Rose, I am sure the doses make a difference.
