Anyone w/experience of weaning?
| Sun, 03-21-2004 - 2:14pm |
Hi,
I've been taking Lexapro 10mg for just over a year now. Although I had some initial side effects in the beginning it has been a God send for me. I've decided to try weaning off of it, because my dr. said that if it is a first case depression, the recommendation was a year and then only wean off if you feel ready. I'm also considering pregnancy and would like to do that without meds if possible.
My DH is a little worried, because he's heard that if you wean off of a medication and then find you need to go back on, the same medication won't work. I'm also just not sure what if anything I should expect while I'm weaning and how to tell if maybe I should just stay on Lexapro.
Any insights would be great!
Thanx,
Karen

I think that in this instance, having gone off of several meds in my lifetime,
Hi, Karen!
This is my Depression/weaning/diet story:
*Low Serotonin and my diet** were the culprits of my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, depression, overwhelming social anxiety and mood swings.
I was born this way & I inherited it from my father’s side of the family.
Paxil gave me tremendous strength for the last year & I recently found myself ready to quit the meds that caused weight & sexual side affects. My doctor & I decided 4 months would be good for me - so we could catch a possible relapse & address any weaning side affects if they come up.
With the plan below, ALL of my ailments were gone after 6 weeks!!! I recommend this health promoting diet to anyone with depression (Rxs or not). I went from feeling like 100 years old to 20 years old :)
The change is so dramatic that I want share my success...
Go "organic" as possible
Power walk 1/2 hour 4-5 times a week and/or Yoga. Yoga is awesome.
* Reduce Refined sugars where ever possible
* Reduce All processed foods
* Reduce wheat intake overall (unless it is sprouted wheat grass) Replace with beans, brown rice, oats and corn products <--gluten in wheat often causes a sleepy/lazy feeling
* reduce margarine, high fructose anything, sodas, coffee
**The reason you want to reduce the processed foods (above) is because they interfere with your biochemistry. When foods are processed, essential DNA molecules are changed. The good fat is changed into bad fat. Also, essential nutrients lose the ability to be absorbed into your body.
* Use olive oil and/or canola oil
* Have a high protein breakfast
* Add all the veggies and fruits that you can eat
* Drink natural juice
* Use daily vitamin (Men's & women's separate)
* Add Extra Calcium (for woman)
* Intake up to 3,000 mg Vit C a day
* Add an extra B complex
* Take 1-3 flaxseed oil tablets a day
I switched to this diet slowly over 4 weeks. The first week I felt fluey (I read that is common).
Under the supervision of my physician: I take Melatonin (so I can sleep better) and 5htp (to increase Serotonin).
Try it -love it - then spread the word:)
