depression without medication?

Hi,

I'm into my fourth week of Effexor and it's just making me so sick and unhappy I really want to stop. I have NO energy left to do anything. I have always been active and now I can barely hoist myself off the couch, let alone do the things I am supposed to do. This is so frustrating!

I have seen a psychiatrist about my condition and I don't seem to be severely depressed; there are other issues at the root of this which I will be addressing in psychotherapy. I'm going to ask him whether I can do this without medication because it's making me so unhappy and frankly, I have less of a life now than I did before I started to take the damn pills.

Has anybody else been through anything similar? Is it possible to beat depression without medication?

Hi jules. I think its possible to beat depression without medication. However I think it can be more difficult for sure. The more severe the depression, I think the harder it would be to beat it without meds. It sounds like maybe you are not taking the right medication for you? There are lots out there. I would talk to the doctor and see what the other possibilities are for you.

If your doctor suggests that you stick to it, then try to stay with it for a couple more weeks and then if the problems dont change, I would put my food down and demand a different prescription. Maybe you could also get some different opinions on it byt different doctors. I hope everything works out in the end and that you get the right medication for you :) Take care
