I hope someone can help me. I have a daughter that lives in Hollywood Calif. and she desperately needs counseling. Problem: She has a job, but her insurance doesn't cover very much counseling (if any at all). She cannot afford professional help. She has several issues besides depression (anger, confusion, self-esteem, etc.) She is 33. What can I do to get her connected to help????

Dear Rose,

I also would recommend going to an organization that provides therapy and related services on a sliding scale. I used to live in California, and I availed myself of this type of service at that time (many years ago). It might have been the Wright Institute (I don't recall for certain), whose website is:

http://www.wila.org/index.html

The website says they offer sliding scale services.

Also, I did a Google search using the keywords "psychotherapy sliding scale los angeles" and came up with quite a few hits; I am sure you will find something useful if you do a similar search.

I wish you and your daughter all the best and I hope she gets the help she needs. I think you did the right thing by writing to this board, and I am sure if you write again you will get more answers and advice.
