It's been a long week and I just tried to take it easy today. I signed my contract Wednesday and now I wish I hadn't. I do love what I do, but I am not all that crazy about the principal. We lost 4 teachers (out of 40) and they all say they are going to go to the priest and tell him they are leaving because of the principal. I don't know if it will help or not. Meanwhile, things at home are getting worse. I didn't think that was possible. I just feel so hopeless. Right now I'm trying to decide if I should try to make it til the end of the school year or just get life over with now. Shall we take a vote? Sorry---bad attempt at humor. Debbie

Having a bad boss is rotten. I've been there. I'm sorry that you have had such a bad week. Please stick it out. Please hang in there. Pray. Call a suicide hotline, if you feel like giving up on life. Call a therapist. But stick it out!!!
My mom had a bad principal that made her life miserable. Eventually, she decided to not take his insults and his attacks on her department personally. It didn't make him cutting her budget easy, but she adjusted. Then he was fired for sexually harassing several different young women. A better principal came in. But she generally felt that administrators, and principals especially, were mostly ambitious people just trying to make themselves look good so they could get ahead. Most teachers I've known feel that way.
Sometimes when I've had a bad boss, I've spent most of my down time recovering from work and trying to feel human again. I used hot baths in candlelight, listening to Enya, meditating, taking walks in nature, whatever I could. It helped me so much to make my home life the best I could when my work life was bad.
Also remember the healing power of chocolate! I've often had the best time of my day be the moment that I sat down in a hot bubble bath and all thoughts left my head. The water washed away the tension and left me just be at peace. It's lovely!
Please hold on, Sweetie. We're pulling for you.
All My Love,
MariaC
Just curious if you have looked for a different teaching job? Not sure if you have as I am new here so sorry if that is a dumb question. I know where I live teaching jobs are scarce, so not sure if you are facing the same dilemma. Also what makes this principal bad? Is it something he/she does, just being downright mean, what?

HI Deb!
Thanks for checking in! So sorry that the principal is so hard to deal with.. Working in schools for the last 7 years I have met and seen a lot of principals and I know how much they affect the whole Mood of the school for teachers and students!
