How do you pull yourself out when you wake up feeling totally hopeless and worthless?

I work full time and need to function at least at some level, but today can't focus and can't stop thinking negatively. Does anyone have any advice to offer?

Hi there,

Sorry you are having a rough start to your day. That happens to me more often than I would like. It can be tough to talk yourself into facing the day.

Usually after hitting the snooze alarm a few too many times, my dogs come to my rescue and jump on me saying... "We really need to go outside..NOW"

or

I realize I am gonna be sooo late *again* and the adrenaline boost gets me going.

Once I am up and moving...

hot coffee, some gentle stretches, a hot shower, stare out the window, go outside and breath deeply, stretch some more, exercise if I can or just jump up and down, and as I drag myself out the door to work I remind myself I will be home in 10 hours.

Then every once in a while, (if I have the sick leave) I call in sick for a mental health day.

I hope something in here helps. I'd give you a hug if I could. (( carolita ))

Let us know how today went for you, ok?

When I wake up in the blah mood that you have described so well.....an dI wake up like that 9 times out of ten what I do is I smile before I even get out of bed I smile and that helps alot...

Then I look at my mom and in a very happy voice say good morning I get my coffee stretch put on the news for 10 minutes change tht because there is never any good news on the news and I put on a music station, I have digital cabel so there is about 30 music stations and I blast the volume up so loud and that usually turns my mood around...

I also do yoga 6-7 days a week and keep a pretty decent schedual, go to bed the same time every night wake up the same time every morning ect...I work out ect..and that helps alot with endorphines...

I hope some of the things I have said have been helpsful..

Hi hun!

I guess when I first wake up I try to remind myself that its a NEW day filled with NEW possiblities and that what happened yesterday is gone..

Of course I also have my son to think about and that was always reason enough for me to get out of bed no matter what!

May I suggest the book Mind over Mood too by Dennis Greenburg as a way to help overcome some of your negative thinking.. Its part of the Cognitive Behavior Therapy I worked on with my Therapist.. it really works!!

*hugs

Thank you for posting this question!!! I hope your day improved. :-)

I find I feel this way a lot. I have a hard time getting to work on time, and I have a hard time getting my work done lately at work and at home.

The others gave some great advise, and I'm going to find the book that Caly mentioned.

You aren't alone!

Take one day at a time. Try to do one thing that you enjoy each day. Go to the park, for a walk. Get involved in a hobby, and get lots of rest during your time off. Perhaps medication can help you out here. I know the feeling makes it almost impossible to see the light at the end of the tunnel. HUGS and SMILES
