Hi everyone...

I've been doing really well for a while, but last night, it just all caught up with me.

I'm soooo overwhelmed, and when I get overwhelmed, I get pretty much paralyzed and can't do anything on my to-do list... I just want to sit there curled up in a little ball and do nothing.

Let's see...where to start...

Finances - well, we're broke. My hubby got laid off in Dec 2002 and just started working again last month. We're overdrawn on our checking account and creditors are calling all the time... I just don't have the energy to pick up that phone and listen to them threaten me, so I don't answer the phone.

Teaching - I'm teaching two new classes this summer than I haven't taught before, and I have to turn my syllabus in to my dept chair by Friday, and I've only got a draft of one of them done... I start next week, and I'm nervous about their levels of remediation. I teach remedial english, and I'm teaching the two lower levels this summer, when I usually teach the ONE upper level.

Home business - I have two home party-plan businesses that I really like, but they're not taking off the way I invisioned them, and it's hard work, and stress, and all that crap...

There's more, but I just don't have the energy to type it all right now...you know?

I'm just soooooooo overwhelmed!!!!!!

Tracie,

I know how frustrating finances can be and those creditors they are so evil I swear thay are the devils spawn they can make you feel like the lowest form of being on the planet when I was going through a really bad time with my finances I had them calling me at home work ect..I just stopped picking up the phone ingnored the letters and paid what I could and eventually it all got paid off but they didnt help at all.

Try to hang in there it will get better both you and your husband work so in time things will get caught up and these evil creditors will stop calling you...

As for the teaching I thinkit is great that you teach reading that is awesome and I am sure you will get you stuff in on time....I know it is hard to do this but try to not stress...like I said I know how hard it is to not stress I am the queen of stressing out...

My sister did the home business thing and had to stop doing it because she wasnt going any where with it she did this thing called one stop party shop and ended up throwing in the towel it cost her too much money and not many people showed interest in it...she has done a ton of those home business things with no luck,....I kow this sounds harsh but did you even think of stopping the home business thing or do you really enjoy doing that?

things will get better for you intime it will all come together and all this YUK will be a thing of the past.

I am wish you the best.

((((((((((Tracie)))))))))))))

I totally understand the finanical depression. Boy can that bring you down. For the moment maybe you shouldn't answer the phone and concentrate on what needs to be done now.

Try to do one thing at a time. Trying to do everything at once just doesn't work. See what you can take off your 'to do' list for the day. Can anyone else help you? When my one friend gets really bogged down with grading papers, I always offer to help her. Teaching is no easy task. It takes a lot of prep. work.

Can your husband deal with the creditors, etc.? Also, ivillage has a debt board that gives pretty good advise. If you haven't been there, you should check it out.

Hope this help.

Have you considered debt consolidation?

Dear Tracie,

You sure do have a lot on your plate. I think that debt consolidation is a great idea. Talk to your bank and see what they can do to help. If you can cover all your debt with a consolidation loan, it will save you a lot of $$ in interest payments, and you can pay in back over however many years you want. You've had lots of advice on debt, so I won't go further with that.

Your home business: Is it worth the trouble? I don't want to sound unsupportive, but if it's causing you stress and not making money, maybe this isn't the right time for it. Why don't you try it again when you're on a firmer financial footing and you don't have to worry so much about a regular paycheck? Maybe when there's less other stress in your life it would work better. Starting your own business takes an enormous amount of time and effort if you really want to make a go of it.

I am a teacher, too. I have taught both English and ESL at the college level and, more recently, to adults. Do you teach all four skills? How often are the classes? I'm thinking if you've done one syllabus, the other one should be pretty quick if the levels are similar. You can just elaborate and give longer listening or reading/writing assignments (or shorter if it's the lower level). There's no need to reinvent the wheel--you can use your old syllabus and make it easier. Sorry if you've already thought of this; I've been teaching for 8 years and that is what I would do. I just finished teaching a really, really low level course to foreign military officers, and I hardly had to plan anything b/c everything took way longer than I had anticipated. You will probably find there's a lot less planning involved in this level, and less marking, but it's demanding when you're in class. Let me know if you'd like help prepping for these classes, and I'll do my best to help you with ideas.

I hope you're doing better today.

Tracie,

I just wanted to send some hugs your way. I wish there was a magic button to save us all from these stressors in our lives.

I wish I had some ideas for you... The debt consolidation sounds like a good idea, but I know nothing about it.

Hi Tracie,

Just read your post and am sending hugs your way...make sure to keep taking deep breaths and chunking all the things that you have to do down to small things...everything will get done! I am hoping that you are doing better today and everyday gets even better!
