Correct Dosage??????

I started Zoloft April 13 at 50 mg. I am now taking 100 mg. When did your body know what the correct dosage is? I am doing a lot better, but not sure how I am suppose to feel. I have been on low grade depression for years and it wasn't until I crashed into major depression I realized I was depressed.
Thanks

Hi hun and Welcome!
I took Zoloft for over 2 years hun and also started at 50 and went to 100 which worked great except the week I had my period LOL then NOTHING helps!
Keep in mind though that Anti Depressant meds to not 'cure' depression, what they do is help lift your mood to a point where you can function better and hopefully tackle the reason you may in fact be depressed.. Sometimes its just Chemical and the AD meds give you energy to exercise and eat right and

The week prior I was feeling better than I have in years, so this week threw me for a loop. I can't even blame it on hormones this week and trying to figure out what the triggers were. Ahhh, such is life when you are in your 40's and life crashes.

Hi again hun!
I soo know what you mean! I think a low point after you have been "up" for while is soo much worse!

For me personally my dosage had to be upped I think 3 times before I could feel a difference but I do not take anti depressants I take a mood stablizer called neurontin what I suffer from is not depression but cycthylmic disorder which is a less severe form of bipolar disorder basically I rapid cycle I can go from normal to very happy to very sad to manic to normal sometimes that all happens in one month or I can go thru all that in one day but since having my meds adjusted to 1200 mg's my moods are way more stable tan they were two or three months ago..
What I did was monitor my moods and when I went to see my shrink I would tell him how I was feeling if I felt the meds were working and he upped them until I could go in there and tell him that I feel pretty stable...Now here is the kicker I feel so normal that I want to stop my meds but I know that my meds are the reason why I feel normal and if I stopped them I would back slide my therapist told me that many many people stop taking meds because they feel good and they feel that they do not need the meds anymore...but anyways I am sorry I went way way off topic...
my best advice for you is to just monitor yourself and after 8 weeeks if you are not feeling better then let your doc know and your dosage may need to be uppe there is no exact dosage that will help everyone what works for me may not work for you I may take 1200 mg;'s of something and you may need only 300mg's...just monitor and be honest with your doctor...
Oh and do not feel guilty about being down like caly said even people who do not suffer from depression have highs and lows that is a normal part of life but we just lack the chemicals to bring us out of that low all of that is normal human emotion thats all..so do not feel bad you got out of it before you will get out of it again.. We all do...
I am sorry if I am all over the place with my responce to you thoughts are very jumbled today but I do know that the other ladies here will have some great insight to offer to you Caly has already started that..
