Welcome to the board! I found your post particularly intriguing because I myself am a bipolar sufferer. I have a very mild case, and I am able to function on a daily basis including working and taking
I agree with both ladies on this one , I think that it is great that you want to educate yourself on bipolar disorder and like one of the other posters said it is very complex....
I was diagonsed a year ago with cyclthymis(speeling wrong?) disorder which is basically rapid cycling, I do not get the extreem high or the extreem lows but I can go from one mood to the next and back again very fast..and I take medication and I am in therapy and I hold down a jo and have my friends and family it has not effected my life really at all the medication helps though and there are triggers that get me into a manic stage..but it is controlable..
Like the other ladies said only you can make the decision about staying or going when it comes to your boyfriend...that is my biggest fearis telling the person I am with that I suffer from a form of bipolar disorder..that once I tell him that he will run away..so your post really hit home with me...personally if your boyfriend is on meds and keeps taking them and goes to therapy he should be fine .....
But your best defence in this is to read up as much as you can on the disorder but dont get afraid of wht you read I know I did there are so many types of bipolar disorder..and not everyone is the same with the disease...
i am sure that the other women here will have a bunch of great advice and insight for you..
I know I was not too helpful sorry about that but I hope that in some way I was...
I know exactly what you are going through and you are not being selfish for thinking of yourself and the future. I agree that you need to read up on bi-polar as much as you can and then ask your boyfriend how best you can help him. He may not know even how to help himself. You must take care of yourself and he must be committed to his treatment.
Hi and Welcome!
I think its wonderful that you care enough about your boyfriend to want to find out as much as you can..
*hugs
