Boredom and depression

Is it common for depression sufferers to frequently be bored? I was reading an article that said boredom is based on state of mind more than actual circumstances . . . that it's wanting to be somewhere else, doing somethong else. If that's the case is there really any chance of eliminating or reducing a depression sufferers boredom? My depressed fiance frequently complains of boredom and says that the only time he's not bored is when he's drinking. Is it just that he can't 'experience' the boredom because of the numbing effects of the alcohol? I make suggestions of things to do to keep him occupied but he usually resorts to computer/video games. Sorry for so many questions . . . was just wondering if this affects anyone else. Thanks!

I definitely suffer from something similiar and it drives my boyfriend crazy. I feel bored no matter what I'm doing some days. He will ask me what I'd like to do, but I cannot answer that because I don't know. I think it might be time where I won't feel much pleasure over anything until the mood subsides -- and I haven't been able to pinpoint if anything specific makes it go away or it is just time. Your boyfriend seems to have it more extreme than me (especially concerning the drinking), I'm curious to see how others on this board deal with it.

We were talking tonight about alcohol in relation to the way he feels. I brought up the idea that he might feel better if he moderated the drinking and went back on his medication. I asked if that was the goal - to feel better. He said the goal is to not feel. Please, help me understand if you can. I didn't know what to say. I just felt very overwhelmed at the moment. He doesn't want to feel ANYTHING?
