My Doctor told me I have postpartum depression little over a year ago.My last daughter is now 2.She put me on Lexapro 10mg. aday.I stopped taking it 3 months later.I felt as though it didnt help.I dont think I am depressed.I think it's something else.My symptons are tired and cranky most of the time,no suicidal thought. This could be anything why do doctors have to put the blame right away on depression?I think I'm not getting the right kind of sleep.Every morning I wake up with pains in my shoulders and hips. What should I do to get my doctor to look at other options?I tried to tell her that I dont think I am depressed but she wont listen to me.Should I try a different clinic so the doctors cant look at my records and see that I'm suppose to be on Lexapro?Has this happened to anyone? Please give me some suggestions.

Have you had your thyroid checked? This is the first thing my dr did when I told her I was depressed after giving birth (mine was okay). Pregnancy can often cause thyroid dysfunction, which can mimic depression, particularly making you feel tired, which of course makes you cranky. You may also put on weight and lose your hair, but my SIL didn't and she had hypothyroidism.

I don't have any other suggestions right now, but I'd strongly recommend a thyroid blood test. You could also have an anemia test at the same time, b/c that can also make you tired.

Take care,

Nicola

When I went to see my Doctor all she said was that I had postpartum Depression. She didnt have any blood work for me to do.She just listem=n to my symptoms and asked me some questions about how I was feeling.Like energy and suicidal thought. The normal questions like that.I did have blood work done but it wasnt for thyroid.Whats anemia? Is that something about lack of vitamins?Never been checked for anemia.Well I made an appointment this friday for the pains in my hips and shoulders so I'll see what she'll say.Hopefully she'll do some tests and not put me back on those pills.I'll refuse to take them if she wont take any tests.

Anemia is low iron. It wouldn't cause depression, but it would make you feel tired. If you are really very anemic, the inside of your lips is very pale, almost white, as is the inside of your eyelid (you can check the lower one). However, you can be borderline and it's not obvious.

I hope your doctor listens to you at your appointment, and you get the treatment that you want.
